I am Taamara de Silva. To tell you a little bit about me im currently a graduate reading for my Masters in Management, employed as a Business Analyst. I was a great enthusiast about model UN and since then joined the UN as a volunteer because I believe in the UN system and in what it can accomplish. I also believe that the UN is the key that unlocks youth potential and brings about the best in youth activists, social workers and bridges community development.
I take pride in being part of the "Youth for a Greener Sri Lanka" - this forum united various activist groups, youth organizations and green initiatives which are centralized under the UNDP
Now the Rio Conference is why all of us got together in this manner. We all felt that what we did through many organizations was not giving the desired impact. However united under the UN itself the force and energy of these groups would have a significant impact on voicing out our cause.
We organized an Earth Walk with the support of all stakeholders including the National Youth Services Council, the Rio+20 campaign, UNDP, Make it Green organizations. This was followed up with the Earth Day event which was streamed live all over the world.
We hope to organize a major youth forum in two stages, one in the capital Colombo and in the Kandy the hill capital of Sri Lanka.
So i guess we have long way to go. But i am confident that just like Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai said do the best you can.
