The fight against gender based violence (rape)

Written by  Guest

Peace and Justice is something that any community would want to acheive. It is something that i would like to see in my community. I want to feel safe and free when I walk any time of the day. I would like to see my community standing up against violence. I do not want to always be looking over my shoulder because every men feels like a rape suspectto me. I want to see peace, justice and love spread in my comminty. This passion led me to want to engage my community in awarenes raising actvities in the fight against gender based violence mainly focusing on rape.

My community experiences high rates of rape and domestic violence. Most rape mostly affects children under the age of 12 by mainly known perpetrators. I have facilitated workshops on effects of rape and domestic violence in a community of +500000, through public education, workshops and consultation with service providers. I have been engaged in counselling of rape survivors as well as domestic violence and referring them for further support and care which is mostly medical, legal and psychosocial. I facilitate a partnership of organizations that aim to provide a holistic and comprehensive service whose vision is to turn victims of rape into survivors. I would like to see peace and justice prevail in my community.
