In Praia, Cape Verde, the day will be marked by a large school race in support of volunteering, involving all schools (central activity). Each school enrolled 35 students to compete. There will be about 500 students attending. This main event is organized by the National Volunteer Programme - an initiative supported by the Ministry of Youth, Employment and Human Resources Development, UNV and NGOs Plaform - in partnership with the Ministry of Education and CV Telecom.
The Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership and the Dublin City North Volunteer Centre are organising the celebration event for International Volunteer Day on Wednesday 5th December from 1.30pm-2.00pm in Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership, Ballymun Shopping Centre, Dublin 11.
International Volunteer Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and show appreciation to all those people who dedicate their much needed time and skills to community organisations in the Ballymun, Whitehall and Santry areas!

A Live Facebook Chat with an Online Volunteering Award Winner (2012)
Dhaka, 2 December 2012 UNV Bangladesh hosted a live Facebook chat with Bushra Ferdous Khan ( a graduate student from Bangladesh) who was one of the 10 award winners of the 2012 Online Volunteering Awards. She shared her online volunteer experience with the Association for Global Humanists and Ethics (AGHE) in Pakistan where she supported the development of the project proposal that was 8.5 million Pakistani rupee grant from USAID's Citizens' Voice Project for being an innovative model for strengthening civic participation and improving public accountability. Participants of the live chat from around the world questioned her about her motivation, interest and project during the live chat. Bushra encouraged everyone to consider volunterering part of time for various initiatives through the use of the Online Volunteering site.
Bryson Charitable Group in Belfast, Northern Ireland, will host a crafts workshop based around Christmas traditions in Spain, Venezuela and Northern Ireland.
The workshop will be held in the Head Office of Bryson Charitable Group.
It will be led by international volunteers hosted through the European Commission "Grundtvig Senior Volunteering Project".
Other hosted international volunteers (including younger volunteers hosted through the EC European Voluntary Service Programme, will attend, as will local Northern Ireland volunteers and staff of Bryson Charitable Group.

My name is Nkiruka Nnaemego. I run an NGO - Fresh & Young Brains Development Initiative, based in Nigeria. We focus mainly on Volunteerism and mentoring for children and youth. On December 5, 2010, our Book 'A Tookit for Volunteerism' produced with support from UNV, NNVS was launched by the Nigerian Government and is currently on UNV/UNDP site. In commemoration of the Tenth Anniversary of International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10), our Volunteer For Life (VFL) Project was launched by the Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with United Nations Volunteers, UNDP, UNMC, ECOWAS Commission at Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Abuja. March 29, 2011. This project has been shared in Sweden and Germany and has reached over 10,000 people globally. This has led to awards and international recognition. Through the project, we are on the Resource Team of the African Union Youth Volunteer Corp and recently participated in the UNV Youth Volunteer Strategy Workshop in Bonn.
Our project which cuts across all borders aims to build and promote a culture of volunteerism regardless of age, gender, class, religion, ability, etc. Through the project, our volunteers have initiated projects on Green Economy & Sustainable Development, Agriculture and Livelihoods, Climate Change Adaptation, Gender and Disaster Risk Reduction for children and youth, leadership and character development, mentoring, among others. The project has been adopted as a best practice within and outside Nigeria.
As a result of the impact of the VFL Project, the Nigerian Government decided to re-launch the project in celebration of this year's IVD.

To organize International Volunteer Day in a school. To make a small presentation about volunteer's movement and to ask students and teachers of school to take part in celebrating volunteer day doing 5 good things in this day for people who are around them and then, at the end od the day, we are going to sum up the results and to create a big picture where children and teachers are going to paint their hands - 5 good things (5 fingers). Like this.
Our organization combines student organizations in Slovenia, that work on mobility as volunteers. We will celebrate with a gathering and have a discusion on volunteering and the meaning of it for our society.
On the 5th December Lesotho will hold a International Volunteer Day celebration to recognise the success of its 3 year pilot National Volunteer Corps (NVC) for the youth of Lesotho. The project has over the last three years placed 513 young people in one year work placements within volunteer large and small host organisations across the public, private and NGO sectors. This far exceeds the target of 300 and the demand for placement's represents the impetus of the youth to participate in volunteerism.
This morning event will be a celebration of the contribution this community wide project has had towards development and the potential for growth, increased private sector partnerships and sustainability this project demonstrates.
Speeches from the two key partners the Government of Lesotho and UNDP will be followed by personal stories from pervious volunteers who have moved onto employment post programme, host organisations on their experiences on how volunteers add to their organisations and a graduation for a small group of newly completed volunteers.
Finally, in response to feedback from previous volunteers and the team's dedication to improve the project the newly Post Placement Programme seminars will be launched, once again showing the NVC's belive in volunteerism by utilising the skills of business professionals to deliver voluntary talks around work skills for the future.
This event recognises youth volunteerism but also that the National Volunteer Corps represents how the diversity in skills and organisational orgin of volunteers can be utilised together for social and economic development. The project team includes International and National UNV's, VSO volunteers (Voluntary Service Overseas) and the national youth volunteers themselves working alongside Government staff to offer the specialism and diversity crucial to ensure a strong and multi-dimensional team.
Team development volunteerism and solutions specific problematic situatuion of the group process is an important element in the development of volunteering.
