No one should go to bed hungry

Written by  Guest

Imagine for a second that you are on your way to school, college or work in your cool air-conditioned car while the sun is scorching down on the ground outside. Your car halts as you pull up to a red traffic light. While you are waiting for the light to turn green, a boy, no older than the age of ten, dressed in tattered clothes, bare feet knocks on your window, starts to cry and begs for money. Between sobs and tears he begs you for money so that he can have just one basic meal of the day.

This is just an example of one person who lives below the poverty line; there are a countless number of such individuals in my country and around the world who cannot afford even one solid meal per day. No one deserves to live like this.

In order to make a difference in my country and help prevent a countless number of children from going to bed hungry, I volunteer with an NGO by the name of Thali - http://www.thali.org.pk/ which collects leftover food from restaurants, parties and functions, re-packages it and distributes it amongst the hungry, homeless and less fortunate members of society. By feeding the less fortunate with food which the fortunate members of society take for granted we are not only preventing the wastage of food but are simultaneously ensuring that less people have to go to sleep hungry at night.

It is inhumane for us to stand by, while a countless number of men, women and children go to bed at night starving. By simply re-packing left over food and passing it on to the hungry we can ensure that at least one less person goes to sleep at night hungry.

So lets join hands, stop taking food for granted and work together to ensure that in the future no one goes to sleep at night hungry.
