Saving and relocating initiative of a plant needs great devotion to it first.

Written by  Zakir Shahin

Normally when a complex is planned to construct a multistory housing apartment in a compact city like Dhaka, the rich ecology there are left unattended and unwatered for the long period between the agreement signing (ecology owner & construction company) and authority approval obtaining- normally 12 to 18 months.

Most of the plants die in the mean time. Slum dwellers collect some for fuel wood. The left over are bulldogged and thrown away by the company while start construction.

But in this unique initiative of a tiny Farmers’ Research Institute Krisoker Sor (Farmers’ Voice), we were courage enough to take the initiative of saving the +95 species of plants, trees and herbs.

We had the timeframe of 18 months. But it was extended luckily for more 4 months. Through the whole period, all the necessary plans, activities, social- happial- economic- power issues resolving, great care for the ecology, nurturing, grafting, root compaction limiting within a close circular earth, sapling preparation, documentation and plant’s response to our actions were done mostly accurate and where it was not possible- there we failed. But with the economic failure of saving some trees (mostly biggest ones), all are convinced with the wonderful result. Nearly 100% plant species are temporarily relocated on 6 decimal of land. All are flowering, fruiting, growing at the new place.

Saving and relocating initiative of a plant needs great devotion to it first. The process is highly simple but technical.
With the all the failures and success, it can be concluded that the endless effort of saving and relocating a ecology is “Tough But Not Impossible”
