Volunteering is hard work and can be challenging, but it is also a lot of fun and positive experiences. My first time in volunteering in Tchad was full of good experiences. I was assigned in Abeche town as an Administrative and Budget Assistant with Engineering Section in MINURCAT mission. It was not just having fun in doing budget and administrative works with DPKO mission that gave me positive experiences; but it was also positive to volunteering in promoting and encouraging local youth organisations, local NGOs to grasp the concept of volunteerism by creating local development projects that would contribute in development of their area.
In Abeche the local youth organisations and local NGOs struggled to get proper professional orientations and trainings on field management of micro/macro development projects. Due to financial limitations, they could not afford to send their technicians at the trainings centre. Therefore, whatever projects they were launching were not effectively meeting the expectations needed by vulnerable women and men leaving in the deprived places. But through volunteer aspirations I thought of sharing my time in assisting them to elaborate training modules and train them on the management of development projects. The volunteer placement gave me a real sense of achievement when the local youth and local NGOs learned more about the development projects. That was another educational awareness lessons which helped to enhance their services deliveries in development.
It was extremely rewarding watching the youth organizations and the local NGOs to use training concepts in their development field because of volunteer’s aspirations. At the end all this was not just a fanciful experience but it was a reality to contribute on the planet development from where I am with what I have and do what I could!
