WHEN:  25 September 2015
WHERE: New York, USA

An event organized by the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC), a strategic partner of UNV, to celebrate the launch of the 2030 agenda and announce the winners of the Peoples' Voices Awards.

Abstract

Right after the adoption of the 2030 agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the UN General Assembly, the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) hosted a ceremony at the UN headquarters in New York, USA, to celebrate the launch of the new inclusive framework and announce the winners of the Peoples' Voices Awards.

The Awards are part of the Peoples’ Voices Challenge, a pioneer initiative to incentivise and recognize the efforts of peoples and stakeholders around the world who contributed to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to define the new development agenda. This initiative is led by the UNMC in collaboration with the UN Volunteers (UNV) programme and other strategic partners.

People’s engagement, including through volunteerism, is crucial for a successful implementation of the 2030 agenda, which needs to be landed and localized to be inclusive and owned by people all over the world.
