• What role does volunteerism play in achieving things like the newly UN SDGs?
• What is the social impact of volunteerism?
Be part of the change in the community volunteering to support people living in your community distributing clothes to men, women and children living in the community caught in the cycle of poverty. Trippinz Care Mission Volunteers is a community organization in Nigeria.
Based in Northern Nigeria, we witness the repercussion of the social vices existent. Illiteracy poses the major and underlining problem as this leads to poverty, gender inequality, backwardness and violence. Hence we created an empowerment initiative called #HerDearDiaryInitiative which seeks to empower the girl child through reading, writing and capacity building!
I always love sacrificing my comfort for the humanity. It gives me pleasure to see myself doing something which am not expectig any token as appreciation resulting from doing that act. Proudly a VOLUNTEER.
My Name is Esharegharan Elvis I am a volunteer with the United4Education under the Teach4Change programme
Well, It all began in 2012 at Covenant University Chapel, Love Entrance precisely when some bunch of Youth-Centered Investors who I thought were 'Extremists' came asking for Volunteers for H.O.P.E. Foundation, Initially I was reluctant for three reasons.
Firstly, the name H.O.P.E. means HOPE-Helping Other People Excel and It didn't make sense to me to help other People excel when one was not excelling. I felt only those who were at their Peak in terms of excellence had the right to help others excel.
Little did I know that "It is not about how much you have, but your heart to add".
Secondly, Volunteering in Nigeria is new and not openly celebrated. In More developed Countries, If a student does not have the neccessary academic GPA to move to the next level, he/she was told to do a "Community Service" or Volunteer for a Cause as that will be used to re-evaluate his/her performance for the year. This did not fly very well with me as I saw it first as a Venture that only those who couldn't land a good-paying Job or do well in school entered into just to fulfill all righteousness. Little did I know that "You are not a Millionaire because you have a Million Naira, but because You have touched a Million Lives".
Thirdly, An Average Nigerian wants a Job(A good Paying one to be precise) and a venture tagged 'Volunteering' or 'Internship' without pay does not go down well. In Fact it is Scorned at. Little did I know that I am "Powerful Beyond Measure" and that "Volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are Priceless".
HOPE helped to realign these reasons into Positive triggers for me to be on the path of Fulfilling my God given assignment, which is "Touching Lives" most Importantly Youths as the Angels of these little Children behold the face of God daily (According to the Bible) so hitherto, Favour is not far away.
#MyHopeStory has been one of Adventure to much more adventure. From the 2013 CITY camp that repositioned my mindset on 'How to get things done with the Power of One-ie One Mindset, one goal', to the 2015 CITY Camp where IMPOSSIBLE was re-written and read as I'M POSSIBLE due to the Unimaginable feats that were achieved in ridiculously unimaginable period of time.
I have met people, built solid networks, form partnerships and taught how to manage people because, a Nation's true Wealth is not Mineral Resource but Human Resource.
Furthermore, I have come to realise that God alone is the SOURCE, every other outlet, person or channel is just a RESOURCE. So Hitherto, a cordial relationship with God will pave way for you no matter the obstacles on your way.
Lastly, #MyHopeStory does not end here. In Fact, It is just starting. Just as Glory is in phases, so is Story in batches. The International Volunteers day is just Hours away (About 40 hours away). In the Words of My Mentor, Martin Luther King Jr. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' ". So I implore each one who truly believes that "An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity"-Martin Luther King Jr. to please stand for Impact because 'In the End, we will remember, not the words of our enemies but the silence of our Friends'.
Volunteer for a Cause today, There are Immense Benefits beyond your wildest dreams or Imaginations.

I work with couple of friends in Nigeria to create awareness about the importance of education, safe sex and how to live a drug free life. It has gone a long way among the communities and state across Nigeria. For IVD 2014 we organized a presentation in school.
