IVD could hardly come at a worse time for many Australians. The first week of December is usually full of Christmas parties and events. Some agencies hold their annual Christmas/end of year party for their volunteers on that date, but not usually when it falls on a weekend. Few agencies/volunteer resource centres have the spare time to hold special celebrations, especially as quite a few close down from Christmas until mid or late January for the summer holidays. Many volunteers are heavily committed with other obligations and wouldn't attend a special event. Such a shame. That's why we tend to do most of our celebrating of our volunteers in our National Volunteer Week, which is held in May. Still, it's lovely to think of volunteers all over the world celebrating and being celebrated on 5 December. We just printed out and displayed some of the beautiful IVD posters and sent copies to the members of our volunteer managers network.
