Why has UNV launched this campaign?

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide.

Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.

UNV is active in about 130 countries with Field Units in 86 countries.

UNV is inspired by the conviction that the work you do helps tackle development challenges every day. You conceive technical and sustainable solutions to questions, you pull up your sleeves, help your neighbours, provide relief to disaster victims and much more. And all this out of free will, commitment and solidarity.

Your work might sometimes go unnoticed to the world, but your actions count in the communities that have benefited from your hard work, and they certainly count to us. We are now trying to make them count where it matters in June - at the Earth Summit.

Make your actions count at Rio+20!
